What is the Natural Capital Approach?
In recent times, there have been growing discussions on the concept of the Natural Capital Approach, referring to a more holistic view of how a business impacts the environment. These solutions enable companies to understand both their impacts and dependencies on natural capital assets, together with understanding business risk and opportunities. Other terms have also emerged in discussions, such as nature-based solutions and nature-positive solutions, and new frameworks promoting this idea among companies has also been launched as of late (e.g. Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures, Science-based Targets for Nature).
This topic is relevant for companies in Malaysia given Malaysia’s proximity to nature especially in certain industries (e.g. agribusiness). This introductory video seeks to provide a starting point for Malaysian companies to understand:
- What is the Natural Capital Approach?
- Why is it important?
- How can companies use it?
