Trade Performance and Fund Flow week ended 4 October 2024
- Emerging markets mostly ended on a negative note last week, as six out of 10 Asian stock exchanges observed closed lower. This came after escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East that turned investors to be more cautious. The heightened tensions caused Brent Crude Oil prices to rebound, gaining 8.43% last week to close at USD78 a barrel on 4 October 2024. Overall, the MSCI Emerging Market Index maintained its net gain position as it ended 0.4% higher last week.
- China markets were closed for most of the week as the country celebrated its Golden Week Holidays from 1 October to 7 October 2024. Both the Shanghai Composite Index and Shenzhen Composite Index ended the last trading day of September on a strong note, closing 8.10% and 10.90% higher, respectively.
- Overall market capitalisation continued to trend downwards and closed 1.5% lower at RM2,020.25 bil, as sentiment turned cautious following escalating tension in the Middle East. 11 out of 13 sector indices closed lower on a week-on-week (WoW) basis.
- The FBMKLCI narrowed by 1.8% to close at 1,629.97 pts, in line with the broad regional performance.
