Aviation Sector Net Zero Carbon Efforts Hampered by SAF Cost, Slow Implementation.
The Malaysia Aviation Group’s (MAG) recent Sustainability Roundtable highlighted the high cost and limited availability of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and the slow adoption of new technologies as challenges in decarbonising the aviation sector. Ministry of Plantation and Commodities’ secretary, Dr Sang Yew Ngin said SAF prices could be three to five times higher than average jet fuel. Meanwhile, the IATA’s Southeast Asian chief noted that fleet renewal and transitioning to more fuel-efficient planes require both time and investment.
