VEGOILS-Palm falls on Dalian oils' weakness, soft ringgit caps losses

(Update prices, adds analyst comment) JAKARTA, March 24 (Reuters) - Malaysian palm oil futures dropped for the second consecutive session on Monday, pressured by weakness in vegetable oil on the Dalian Commodity Exchange, but a weak currency limited losses. The benchmark palm oil contract FCPOc3 for June delivery on the Bursa Malaysia Derivatives Exchange lost 35 ringgit, or 0.8%, to 4,340 ringgit ($979.02)a metric ton by the midday break. "The contract is following weak external markets but ringgit weakness cushion some losses," said a Kuala Lumpur-based trader. Dalian's most-active soyoil contract DBYcv1 dropped 1.2%, while its palm oil contract DCPcv1 shed 1.34%. Soyoil prices on the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) BOc2 barely changed, up 0.02%. Palm oil tracks prices of rival edible oils as it competes for a share of the global vegetable oils market. Malaysian ringgit, the contract's currency of trade, fell 0.32% against the U.S. dollar. A weak ringgit makes palm more attractive to foreign currency holders. Exports of Malaysian palm oil products in the March 1-20 period are estimated to have dropped between 5% and 14.2% month-on-month, according to cargo surveyors.
