MSCI February 2025 Index Review: Genting Malaysia and Inari will be removed from MSCI Emerging Market Index

Based on the latest MSCI quarterly review, Inari and Genting Malaysia will be removed from the Emerging Market Index (EMI). The revision will take effect at the close of 28 February 2025, and Malaysia’s pro forma weightage in the MSCI EMI is estimated at 1.38%*, with a total of 30 constituents. The pro forma weightage is also highest among ASEAN peers, ahead of Indonesia (1.28%, 17 constituents), Thailand (1.22%, 25 constituents), Philippines (0.46%, 11 constituents).
The asset under management (AUM) of funds benchmarked to the MSCI EM Index increased from USD1,381 bil as of 31 December 2023 t0 USD1,431 bil as of 30 June 2024, with growth observed in both active funds (1.6% increase to USD1,059 bil) and indexed funds (9.7% expansion to USD372 bil) for the same period.
