China plans to adopt volume-based emissions reduction targets.

China is planning a significant shift in its climate targets, moving from relative economic growth-based targets to volume-based carbon dioxide emissions reduction targets. This change is expected to help align China’s domestic actions with its international commitments. The new approach will be implemented once peak carbon emissions are reached, which China aims to achieve by 2030. This will be the first time China sets an absolute emission target.
