China to continue with low-carbon reforms, energy regulator says.
China will continue its low-carbon reforms, focusing on phasing out fossil fuels and reforming its electricity system. The National Energy Administration head, Zhang Jianhua, emphasised expanding the spot market, promoting green electricity trading, and increasing renewable energy use. Despite significant reliance on coal, China invested $676 billion in its energy transition last year, accounting for 38% of the global total. The country met its 2030 target of installing 1,200 gigawatts of wind and solar power six years early. However, China still faces challenges in reducing carbon intensity and meeting other environmental goals, according to analysts.
