Trade Performance and Fund Flow - April 2023
▪ Total market capitalisation as at end-April 2023 grew slightly by 0.4% MoM to RM1,715 bil in April from its 5-month low of RM1,708 bil in March.
▪ March’s ADV slipped further by 18.7% MoM to its 9-month low of RM1.65 bil in April (Mar: RM2.03 bil), bringing the YTD ADV to RM2.03 bil. Trading activities in April moderated across all investor segments, with foreign institutions (-32% MoM) contributing the largest contraction in ADV.
▪ Foreign outflows from Malaysian equities narrowed significantly to -RM251mil in April from its 7month high of -RM1.35 bil outflow in March, accumulating outflows of -RM2.12 bil YTD.
▪ Meanwhile, local institutions remained as net buyers in April, albeit with a smaller inflow of +RM305mil (Mar: +RM1.19 bil). YTD, this segment of investors has contributed a total of +RM1.87 bil in inflows.
▪ Inflows from local retailers slowed to +RM38 mil in April (Mar: +RM73mil), bringing YTD inflows to +RM132 mil.
