Malaysia Halts New Oil Palm Plantations to Preserve Forest Cover – Johari.

Malaysia has pledged to halt new oil palm plantations in forest areas and maintain its current forest cover at 54 per cent, said Plantation and Commodities Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani. Palm fruit harvested from deforested areas would be barred from processing, and factories accepting such fruit bunches would be prohibited from exporting or selling their products, he said.
